Itzatá, also known as the Córdoba Wetland, is a natural refuge spanning 44 hectares and connecting the Santa Bárbara stream with the Córdoba Wetland. Its name, derived from the Muisca language, means "sacred domain of the water princess." This wetland is unique in Bogotá, as it features infrastructure designed to maintain an ideal ecological flow. Visitors can observe more than 155 species of birds, as well as various rodents, amphibians, and other animals that inhabit this distinct ecosystem.
El Salitre Wetland
The Salitre Wetland Ecological District Park, located in the Barrios Unidos locality, is a remarkable green space that will impress you with its biodiversity and tranquility. Although it is the smallest wetland in Bogotá, covering just 3.41 hectares, it has transformed from an artificial lake in the old El Salitre Amusement Park into a true natural paradise featuring floodable soils and beautiful landscapes. Officially designated as a wetland in 2011, and since then, it has been consolidated as a vital ecosystem for the city.
