The Teatro Nacional presents the internationally award-winning play, which continues its run at the Teatro Nacional with more than 18,000 spectators and 60 successful performances. El Padre is a masterful tale about the fragility of memory and the struggle to hold on to one's identity when everything begins to fade away.
Synopsis:
Sometimes love is not enough to deal with the tragic issues of life. In order to keep living, we have to give up the things we love most.
The day André — The Father — is no longer able to care for himself, his daughter Anne decides to take him to live with her and her partner, Pierre, in their apartment. To help with this transition, they hire a nurse, Laura, to look after André. However, André’s difficult temperament, combined with his illness, prevents him from recognizing his need for care. This gives rise to a series of conflicts involving André and the nurses, André and Pierre, and André and his daughter — tensions that ultimately lead Anne to the heartbreaking decision of placing him in a nursing home.
