The Torca-Guaymaral Wetland District Ecological Park is an invaluable natural refuge for Bogotá and its rich biodiversity. It is divided into two segments separated by the Autopista Norte, extending between the Suba and Usaquén localities. This area stands out as a protected space that conserves the flora and fauna vital to the urban ecosystem of the capital.
With a rich vegetation of native tree and shrub species, planted in collaboration with the Botanical Garden and the Aqueduct Company of Bogotá (EAAB), the Torca-Guaymaral Wetland is home to various bird species and other wildlife that find here a resilient and constantly adapting environment. During the tour, you will see plants such as alder, chusque, and bulrush, which enhance the landscape and create an ideal habitat for observing local fauna.
In addition to its beauty, Torca-Guaymaral plays a crucial role in regulating the water cycle and purifying water in Bogotá. It invites visitors to connect with nature and explore urban ecosystems without venturing far from the city.
The Torca-Guaymaral Wetland District Ecological Park has two main accesses. To reach the Torca sector by private vehicle, take the Autopista Norte northbound and follow the signs to Jardines de Paz Cemetery, where you will find the entrance to the wetland. There is parking available in the area.
- To access the Guaymaral sector, head towards the BIMA Shopping Center, which is also located on the Autopista Norte. You can park at the mall and then walk to the wetland, which is only a few minutes away.
- By Transmilenio, take the route to Portal del Norte. From there, you can catch a feeder bus that will drop you near Jardines de Paz Cemetery to access the Torca sector, or you can take a bus to the closest stop near BIMA to reach the Guaymaral sector.
- You can also opt for SITP routes that run along the Autopista Norte and stop near the BIMA Shopping Center for more direct access to the wetland.
