This educational initiative aims to build spaces for participation and recognition of the memories and cultural heritage of the LGBTIQ+ communities in the Ciudad Bolívar locality.
Since 2022, the Self-Built City Museum has collaborated with LGBTIQ+ community spaces and collectives, including the Ciudad Bolívar Diversity Roundtable. Together, they agreed to create an exhibition at the museum in 2023. This exhibition resulted from a series of meetings and workshops aimed at developing a memory-based project to ensure that the struggles and resistance of LGBTIQ+ groups in the locality are acknowledged within the museum.
The project also seeks to foster dialogue with the broader public about social groups historically marginalized and segregated in the city and to recognize these communities' unique memories and heritage.
The activity includes a tour through the different TransMiCable stations, featuring artistic performances by LGBTIQ+ collectives from the areas surrounding the stations. It also includes the opening of the exhibition No somos las flores de tu basurero (We Are Not the Flowers in Your Garbage) in the TransMiCable auditorium, and the raising of the LGBTIQ and Trans flags, accompanied by a conversation on sexual and gender diversity in the south of Bogotá. This activity aims to highlight their stories, advocate for their rights, and foster a sense of belonging and recognition of diversity in southern Bogotá.
