"L’incoronazione di Poppea" by Claudio Monteverdi, with a libretto by Giovanni Francesco Busenello, premiered in 1642. This story of power in a tyrannical state and the struggle between reason and pleasure—universal themes explored in the original work through a chapter of the Roman Empire—will be presented for the first time in Bogotá thanks to a unique collaboration between the Teatro Mayor Julio Mario Santo Domingo, stage director Pedro Salazar, La Compañía Estable, and one of the world’s leading early music ensembles: Le Poème Harmonique, orchestra conducted by the French Vincent Dumestre, alongside a cast of soloists from Colombia, Venezuela, Chile, and Brazil.
