The La Vaca Wetland District Ecological Park is an ecological gem located in the southwest of Bogotá. It serves as a refuge for biodiversity, thanks to conservation efforts and active community involvement. This unique ecosystem features wet, semi-humid, and dry areas that support a variety of species and play a crucial role in the city's water regulation.
Located in the Kennedy locality, it covers 7.98 hectares and is divided into two sectors, north and south, which were delimited in 1999. This space has been vital for maintaining Bogotá's natural balance since the early twentieth century, when it was part of the Tintal Lake and connected to the hydrological system of the Fucha and Tunjuelo Rivers, along with the Tibanica, Techo, and El Burro wetlands. Today, its boundaries extend to the neighborhoods of Villa de la Torre, Villa Emilia, El Amparo, and the Cayetano Cañizares Metropolitan Park, where its trails invite visitors to explore nature.
One of the easiest ways to access the La Vaca wetland is via Carrera 86, located just behind Corabastos. However, there are multiple ways to reach the wetland.
- By private vehicle, take Avenida Boyacá south until you reach Avenida Carrera 86. Follow the signs to Corabastos, and you will find the wetland just a few meters away. There are parking options available nearby.
- By TransMilenio, use the route to Portal de Las Americas (Line F). After arriving, take a feeder bus to Corabastos and get off at the nearest stop. From there, walk towards Avenida Carrera 86, where you will find the entrance to the wetland.
- By SITP, choose any route that goes along Avenida Carrera 86, Corabastos, or Avenida Boyacá heading south. Once you arrive, walk towards the green area behind Corabastos to find the entrance to the wetland.
