The Salitre Wetland Ecological District Park, located in the Barrios Unidos locality, is a remarkable green space that will impress you with its biodiversity and tranquility. Although it is the smallest wetland in Bogotá, covering just 3.41 hectares, it has transformed from an artificial lake in the old El Salitre Amusement Park into a true natural paradise featuring floodable soils and beautiful landscapes. Officially designated as a wetland in 2011, and since then, it has been consolidated as a vital ecosystem for the city.

During your visit, you will be surrounded by fascinating vegetation, including reeds, bulrushes, water lilies, and majestic elephant grass. You will also have the chance to observe some of the most unique birds that inhabit the area, such as the Neotropic Cormorant, the elegant great egret, the shoveler, and the great blue heron. This location is perfect for birdwatchers and nature lovers alike!

This wetland serves not only as a habitat for wildlife but also plays a critical role in regulating the water cycle and purifying Bogotá's water. Its importance in conserving biodiversity and supporting the well-being of the city makes it an essential part of urban life.

If you're seeking a place to escape the hustle and bustle, enjoy a peaceful walk, or learn more about Bogotá's ecosystems, the Salitre Wetland is the ideal destination. It is perfect for anyone wanting to discover the hidden beauty of the city and appreciate nature without leaving the capital. Explore this wonderful gem in Bogotá!
